The Devil’s Playground – Brutal Difficulty
Part 1
Part 2
In The Devil’s Playground mission you have to collect a surplus of 8,000 minerals while avoiding frequent lava surges and zerg attacks. The zerg attacks at your main base can and should be defended with a single marine filled bunker, a turret and 1-2 SCVs ready to repair. The difference between this map on Hard mode vs. Brutal mode is that in Brutal the lava surges are more frequent and there is no visible timer alerting you how long you have before the lava surges. You’ll notice it caught me off guard the first time I heard the sirens go off since there was no timer or definitive warning.
I travel in a counter clockwise direction with a single Command Center and a pack of SCVs, harvesting 1 at a time. It takes the time between 1 lava surge to fully deplete a mineral patch and then you’ll be ready to move your Command Center, SCVs and roaming defenses to the next location. Building Reapers and sending them around the map to find minerals that you can pickup will net you about 1-2,000 minerals and speed the map up significantly. Take a look at the last half of the second video for an example of where the minerals and vespene gas can be found.
